The idea I want to map is the agency of nature in the Native American novel.
I am continually impressed by how maps can show agency outside of the human, and I want to focus my exploration on LeAnne Howe's Shell Shaker. I posted a visualization of the second chapter of Shell Shaker in Textexture (with thanks to Inez for pointing me to this resource). The second map is the beginning of one I am making in yEd of the entire novel. Together they don't demonstrate much so far, but they do represent a souvenir of the point that I want to make (but will take much more time to make): power operates in the novel in such a way that landscape becomes a character and has agency despite the human borders dividing the land.
What I am thinking about: How can a map demonstrate the agency of nature outside of an actual natural disaster and/or demonstration of agency over the human? If certain characters (including nature and animals in the term "characters") have more agency than others, should I make those characters larger in my map (in the same way as ManyEyes)?
