Bhargavi - Social Network Analysis

Page history last edited by bhargavi@umail.ucsb.edu 10 years, 4 months ago

I am still trying to learn to use Gephi. After numerous attempts and troubleshooting by Liz, I finally managed to produce a network of characters for part -1 in The Importance of Being Earnest (Strangely though, there are two Jack Worthings...still trying to figure that one out). This is definitely an interesting tool to map interactions between characters. It doesn't show the nature of the interaction, though. The exchanges between Algy and his butler are more frequent than those between him and Lady Bracknell but they have different positions in the social hierarchy. The network is not calibrated to emphasize this difference.  I wonder how it will work for a novel in the stream of consciousness or in texts where dialogues/interactions happen in the memory of (or are sometimes imagined by) characters.
